Peninsula Prenatal Diagnostics Staff
Dr. McCallum and Dr Liner specialize in obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis. The practice was established over 17 years ago.

The other members of our team include pediatric cardiologists, clinical geneticists, genetic counselors, and ultrasound technologists.

We provide chromosomal analysis as well as molecular (DNA) testing. Our patients are seen on referral from their obstetricians or other primary care providers and are returned to their care after our specialty services are provided.

W. Desmond McCallum, MD, FACOG, FRCOG
Dr. McCallum received his medical degree and research doctorate from the Queens University of Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he also completed his residency in ob/gyn. He continued with research on umbilical blood flow and fetal weight estimation, using ultrasound, at the University of Washington before joining the Stanford faculty in 1977Qmore. He has over thirty publications in his area of expertise. Dr. McCallum established a private practice in ob/gyn ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis in 1980. He is a fellow of both the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Robert I. Liner, MD, FACOG
Dr. Liner graduated from Standford University with Honors in Humanities. He received his medical degree from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine in 1970, followed by postgraduate work specializing in obstetrics and gynecology at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Oakland. For serveral years, he combined private practice with a teaching position at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco, where his responsibilities included heading the residency training program in Obstetrics & Gynecology. His teaching positions included affiliation with the University of California Medical Center, at San Francisco and supervision of high-risk pregnancies at Mount Zion Hospital. He joined Peninsula Prenatal Diagnostics in 1988. He has published works in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Although Dr. Liner doesn't claim fluency, he is conversationally well versed in Spanish. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the piano and writing screenplays.

Stafford R. Grady, MD, FAAP
Dr. Grady is a pediatric cardiologist in private practice. He received his medical degree from the University of California School of Medicine in Los Angeles and did his postgraduate training in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston.

Michael L. Griffin, MD, FAAP
Dr. Griffin graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1977. He then attended Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and received his medical degree in 1980. His postgraduate work included one year of internship in family practice at the University of Illinois and one year of pediatric internship at the University of Kentucky. He completed two years of residency in general pediatrics and a three year pediactric cardiology fellowship at the Washington in Saint Louis Missouri, which also included a one year honorary registar at The Hospital for Sick Children at Ormond Street in London, England. He was an assistant professor of Pediactric Cardiology at Washington University before moving onto Stanford University where he continued teaching Pediatric Cardiology for five more years. Dr. Griffin has published many articles on pediatric cardiolgy. He entered into private practice in 1993. He is Board Certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. He us a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a staff member of many Bay Area Hospitals.

Genetics staff
The clinical geneticists are board certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics. The PhD and masters level genetic counselors are board certified or are eligible for the American Board of Genetic Counselors certification. They are experienced in prenatal diagnosis counseling as well as in other genetic counseling. Counseling is available in Spanish.

Dr. Waterson, MD, PhD, FACMG
Dr. Waterson received his medical degree from the University of Michigan where he also trained in Medical Genetics and Pediatrics. He was on the University of Michigan faculty for three years before moving to Akron, Ohio where he practiced for 17 years and was on the faculty of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. He recently moved to the Bay Area and joined PPD. Dr. Waterson is board certified in Medical Genetics and Pediatrics and is a Founding Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Katherine Young, PhD
Dr. Katherine Young received her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. She did research in molecular genetics at Columbia University and Indiana University studying an inherited anemia and inherited dementias. Her medical genetics fellowship was done at Indiana University School of Medicine. She is board certified in PhD Medical Genetics by the American College of Medical Genetics.

Kara Reynolds, MS
Kara Reynolds received her Masters of Science degree in Biology from the University of Rochester, New York. She has a second Masters Degree in Medical Genetics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is certified in genetic counseling by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.

Shannon Kieran, MS
Shannon Kieren received her Masters Degree in Genetic Counseling from the University of Arizona, College of Medicine.
